One Gut. Whole Dog.™
Purchased the calming treats, can't remember name, was it Bliss? Terrible waste of money! Please take down all the ads! I'm being bombarded with them! I won't be buying more at the moment! In fact I would like a refund, under the "sale of goods act" as they are not delivering what they're meant to! Many Thanks. Regards, Anne Berardi.
Same as other review could be softer so easier to crush in food
Having a subscription service is great. I can alter the date if needed or order more in-between. Our Cara is a high anxiety driven dog and whilst these do help calm her down to some extent, she still carries her soft toys around when stressed and barks at tiny things. Sometimes she will silence on command and other times its like she doesn't hear us. She is on 3 chews a day which is recommended for her weight. Both dogs get fed a decent diet with extras like eggs, tuna, Greek yogurt etc. If anyone has any other things we can try to help reduce her anxiety further, please let me know.
Mijn hondje ( chihuahua ) lust het niet. Ze zijn te groot en hard , dus moet ze fijn malen . Ik heb ze tien dagen gebruikt en ze is nog steeds angstig voor vuurwerk.
Only on the first few weeks of these after transferring from another brand, as Bliss has more calming ingredients. They seem to be having an effect, but if like human supplements, they will take up to 16 weeks to show their full effect.
My dog loves these beautiful chunky treats. She lives with a lot of early trauma and is nervous reactive in response. We've worked a lot with her over the last five years. Looking back over the last couple of months she has been 'taking' these daily we have noticed some subtle and not-so-subtle changes. She has never been a lapdog in all the time we've had her – but now she'll happily snuggle with us on the sofa in the evening. That is bliss I can tell you. She will always be a nervous girl, but her reactivity 'volume' has definitely lessened. I know how much care goes into Bonza recipes and I'm delighted with the results.
Description
Bliss is the calming chew in the Supplements functional supplement range: a daily soft chew built on varied whole-food prebiotic fibres and two postbiotics, TruPet™ and heat-inactivated Lactobacillus helveticus HA-122, then layered with calming amino acids, magnesium and botanicals that work through the gut-brain axis. It is formulated to support a calm, settled disposition and resilience to everyday stress for dogs who find separation, loud noises, travel or new situations hard. Made without meat, wheat, soy or corn.
Bliss is formulated to support:
- A calm, settled disposition
- Resilience to everyday stress
- A healthy, balanced stress response
- Relaxed focus, without sedation
- Normal brain and nervous system function
- A balanced gut microbiome
- The gut barrier and intestinal lining
Ingredients
Led by the amino acids L-tryptophan and taurine, three forms of magnesium (magnesium glycinate and the magnesium sulphate and oxide in Durelax®), and the botanicals ashwagandha, passionflower, lemon balm and green tea, built on a varied base of whole-food prebiotic fibres from fava bean, pea, potato, pumpkin seed and apple and two postbiotics (TruPet™ and heat-inactivated Lactobacillus helveticus HA-122), with DHAgold™ algae, hemp seed oil (CBD-free), a vitamin B complex and vitamins C and E. Every ingredient and inclusion level is listed in full below.
Cold Extrusion Benefits
Heat is the enemy of many of the actives that make a supplement worth giving, so every Bioactive Bite is cold-extruded, shaped at a gentle 38°C, close to a dog's own body temperature.
Why the gentle process matters:
- Amino acids stay intact. High heat damages amino acids such as L-tryptophan through browning reactions with sugars, so a gentle process helps protect them.
- Delicate oils stay intact. Fragile fats like the DHA in DHAgold™ and the essential fatty acids in hemp seed oil oxidise and lose their value when heated, so a low temperature helps protect them.
- Vitamins and antioxidants are preserved. Heat-sensitive nutrients such as the B vitamins, vitamin C and natural vitamin E hold their potency rather than being cooked off.
- Botanicals keep their activity. Delicate compounds, including the withanolides in ashwagandha, the flavonoids in passionflower, the volatile compounds in lemon balm and the catechins in green tea, are easily degraded by heat.
- Declared levels are protected. A gentle process means far less is lost in the making, so the inclusion levels on the pack are protected through manufacture.
In short, cold extrusion is how a carefully designed formula still delivers once it is in the bowl.

When Everyday Life Feels Too Much for Your Dog
It rarely looks like a crisis. It is the pacing when you pick up your keys, the trembling at the first firework, the dog who cannot settle in the car or hides when visitors arrive. When your dog is anxious, their whole world shrinks, and so does yours.
Stress is not only in the mind. The gut and the brain are in constant conversation along the gut-brain axis: around 90% of the body's serotonin is made in the gut, and gut bacteria help shape how the body responds to stress. When the gut is out of balance, and the stress hormone cortisol runs high for too long, the calm your dog needs becomes harder to reach.
Bliss is designed to support calm from the inside out.
Not to sedate or mask signs with a quick fix, but to support the brain chemistry, stress response and gut that help your dog feel settled and like themselves.
What Bliss Supports
Six Ways Bliss Supports a Calmer Dog
Each benefit connects back to the gut, because a calm mind is built from the inside out.
Calm Brain Chemistry
L-tryptophan and taurine support the brain chemistry of calm.
The science
L-tryptophan (131.25mg per chew) is the dietary building block of serotonin, the vitamin B complex supplies the cofactors that convert it, and taurine (158.67mg) is an amino acid involved in calming nerve signalling.
For the evidence, see L-tryptophan for dogsHealthy Stress Response
Ashwagandha and green tea support a balanced stress response through the HPA axis.
The science
Ashwagandha oil (30mg) is an adaptogen studied in dogs for its effect on stress, and green tea (75mg) provides catechins and naturally occurring L-theanine.
For the evidence, see the HPA axis in dogsNervous System Support
Three forms of magnesium support normal nervous system function and relaxed muscles.
The science
Magnesium glycinate (91.46mg) and the magnesium sulphate and oxide in Durelax® (42mg) supply magnesium, a mineral involved in nerve signalling, while the glycine and lemon balm extract add calming support of their own.
For the evidence, see Durelax® for dogsCalm Without Sedation
Passionflower and lemon balm support relaxed calm, not drowsiness.
The science
Passionflower (45mg) and lemon balm (33.75mg, plus the extract in Durelax®) are traditionally used for calm, and lemon balm has been studied for its calming effect in dogs.
For the evidence, see passionflower for dogsGut-Brain Axis Support
A balanced gut supports balanced signals to the brain.
The science
Fibres from five whole-food sources, including fava bean, pea and apple, feed a wider range of beneficial gut bacteria, while two postbiotics, TruPet™ (131.25mg) and heat-inactivated L. helveticus HA-122 (1.125 × 10⁹ cells), deliver the beneficial compounds those bacteria produce.
For the evidence, see the gut-brain axisBrain Nourishment
Algae-sourced Omega-3 and hemp seed oil nourish the brain and nervous system.
The science
DHAgold™ algae (30mg) supplies DHA, the most abundant Omega-3 in the brain, and hemp seed oil (120mg, CBD-free) provides Omega-3 and Omega-6 essential fatty acids, alongside the antioxidant vitamins C and E.
For the evidence, see gut health and behaviourHow Bliss Works
The Science Behind Bliss
-
Settle the Gut
Different gut bacteria break down different fibres, so Bliss draws its prebiotic fibres from five whole-food sources, fava bean, pea, potato, pumpkin seed and apple, rather than a single isolated fibre. Fibre variety, not fibre quantity, is what feeds a varied microbiome. Two named postbiotics, TruPet™ and heat-inactivated Lactobacillus helveticus HA-122, then deliver the beneficial compounds those bacteria produce, with no need to survive digestion. Together they support gut balance and the gut lining, the thin, living barrier between what your dog eats and the rest of their body, and a settled gut is in constant conversation with the brain.

Nourish the Brain
L-tryptophan is the dietary building block of serotonin, and the B vitamins supply the cofactors that convert it. Taurine supports calming nerve signalling, and DHA from DHAgold™ algae is a structural part of nerve cell membranes. Together they supply the raw materials of a calm, settled mind.
L-tryptophan 131.25mg · Taurine 158.67mg · DHAgold™ algae 30mg

Calm the Response
Ashwagandha and green tea support a balanced stress response, three forms of magnesium support the nervous system, and passionflower and lemon balm support relaxed calm without sedation. That is the gut-brain axis at work: care for the gut, and you care for the mind. One Gut. Whole Dog.™ is not just a name. It is how the body actually works.

Your Dog's Journey With Bliss
Supporting calm from the inside out is a gradual, biological process, not an instant fix. Here is what many owners report as a general guide.
-
Week 1-2
Settling In
The amino acids, magnesium and botanicals begin to work alongside the gut foundation. Some dogs have a brief digestive adjustment as the microbiome shifts, which usually passes within a few days.
-
Week 2-4
First Signs of Calm
Many owners notice a dog who settles more easily at home and recovers more quickly after a stressful moment.
-
Month 1-2
Steadier Days
As the gut-brain and stress-response support build, many owners report a more relaxed baseline and a calmer reaction to everyday triggers.
-
Ongoing
Everyday Resilience
Consistent daily use maintains the calm Bliss supports, through fireworks season, travel and changes of routine.
Many owners notice changes over the first few weeks. Giving Bliss consistently each day matters more than giving more.

Better Together
Works Even Better Together
Bliss works best on a strong gut foundation. Pair it with Biotics and the gut-brain axis is supported at both ends: Biotics at the microbial root, Bliss at the brain and stress response.

The Calming Routine
Biotics steadies the gut at the centre, while Bliss works along the gut-brain axis. For a dog who settles more easily and takes the day in their stride.

FAQ
Your Questions Answered
What are Bonza Supplements?
Supplements are daily soft-chew supplements for dogs. Every Bite is built on a gut-health foundation of named biotics, then layered with targeted bioactives that work along a specific gut-organ axis to support a particular concern, from digestion and skin to calm, joints and senior vitality.
What is Bliss, and who is it for?
Bliss is the calming chew in the Supplements range. It is formulated for dogs prone to stress and nervousness, including dogs who find separation, loud noises, travel, visitors or new places hard. It combines varied prebiotic fibres and two postbiotics with calming amino acids, three forms of magnesium and calming botanicals to support a settled disposition and resilience to everyday stress, without sedation.
How does Bliss support the gut?
Two ways. Prebiotic fibres from five whole-food sources, fava bean, pea, potato, pumpkin seed and apple, feed a wide range of beneficial gut bacteria, because different bacteria break down different fibres. Two postbiotics, TruPet™ and heat-inactivated Lactobacillus helveticus HA-122, deliver the beneficial compounds those bacteria produce, and because they are not alive they do not need to survive digestion to do their work. Bliss contains no live probiotic, so for the full prebiotic, probiotic and postbiotic foundation, many owners pair Bliss with Biotics.
What is the gut-brain axis, and why does it matter for calm?
The gut-brain axis is the two-way communication between the gut and the brain, through the vagus nerve, hormones, the immune system and the compounds gut bacteria produce. Around 90% of the body's serotonin is made in the gut, and the gut microbiome helps shape the stress response. Bliss supports both ends: the gut foundation and the brain chemistry of calm. Read more about the gut-brain axis.
Does Bliss sedate dogs or change their personality?
No. Bliss contains no sedatives. It is formulated to support relaxed calm, so your dog stays alert and fully themselves. If you ever notice unusual drowsiness, reduce to a half dose, build up gradually and check with your vet.
Can Bliss help during fireworks, thunderstorms or travel?
Bliss supports calm through everyday stressors and known events. For fireworks season or a planned journey, many owners start daily use several weeks ahead and give that day's amount two to three hours before the event. Bliss is not a sedative and works best alongside a safe space, calm handling and, where needed, advice from a behaviourist.
My dog has been diagnosed with an anxiety or behaviour condition. Can I give Bliss?
Bliss is a food supplement, not a veterinary medicine, and it is not a treatment for any behaviour condition. Many owners of dogs with a diagnosed condition give Bliss daily to support calm alongside the plan their vet or behaviourist has put in place. Talk to your vet before starting, particularly if your dog takes medication, and never stop or change a prescribed treatment without their advice.
What is Durelax®, and why is it in Bliss?
Durelax® combines magnesium salts (sulphate and oxide) with lemon balm extract (Melissa officinalis) on a sepiolite clay carrier. Together with magnesium glycinate, it gives Bliss three forms of magnesium, a mineral involved in nerve signalling, and lemon balm has been studied for its calming effect in dogs.
Is the hemp seed oil in Bliss CBD?
No. Bliss contains hemp seed oil, pressed from the seeds, which is CBD-free. It is there for its Omega-3 and Omega-6 essential fatty acids, alongside the DHA from DHAgold™ algae.
Which Bioactive Bite is right for my dog?
Choose by the concern that matters most: Belly for digestion, Biotics for microbiome balance, Block for skin and coat, Bliss for calm, Bounce for joints and mobility, Banish for flea-season skin and coat support, and Boost for the senior years. If calm is your main concern, Bliss is the place to start. You can compare all seven Bites on our Supplements page.
Are Supplements suitable for sensitive dogs, puppies and seniors?
Supplements are made without meat, wheat, soy, corn or artificial additives, which suits many dogs with sensitivities. They are formulated for dogs from 12 weeks and older. If your dog has a medical condition or takes medication, check with your vet before starting.
What is Bliss free from, and is it suitable for dogs with allergies?
Bliss is made without meat, wheat, soy or corn, so it contains no chicken or beef, the proteins most often behind food sensitivities in dogs. That makes it a gentle daily choice for many sensitive dogs. If your dog has a diagnosed allergy, check the full ingredient list above before starting, and have a word with your vet if you are unsure.
Why is Bliss plant-based?
Plant-based by consequence, not by trend. The most common food sensitivities in dogs are animal proteins like chicken and beef, so a plant-based formula sidesteps them, which is what makes Bliss gentle on sensitive dogs. It suits vegan households too, but the reason we make it this way is health, not ideology.
Is Bliss suitable for pregnant or nursing dogs?
For pregnant or nursing dogs, check with your vet before starting. Their nutritional needs change during this time, and your vet can advise on what is right for them.
Are Supplements safe?
Yes. Supplements are food supplements made from food-grade ingredients at gentle, effective levels, formulated by our nutritionist and approved by our veterinary advisory board. They are supplements, not medicines, and are designed to complement a balanced diet rather than replace veterinary care. They are made for daily, long-term use, with no need to cycle on and off. If your dog has a health condition or takes medication, check with your vet before starting.
Are there any side effects?
Bliss is well tolerated by most dogs. A few have a minor digestive adjustment in the first few days as the microbiome adapts. If your dog seems unusually drowsy at the usual amount, reduce to a half dose, build up gradually and check with your vet.
Who formulated Bliss?
Bliss was formulated by Bonza's founder, Glendon Lloyd, who holds Diplomas in Canine Nutrition and Dog Nutrigenomics, both with Distinction, and it is approved by our Veterinary Advisory Board. Every ingredient is selected on published research and included at a meaningful level.
Are the ingredients backed by evidence?
Yes. Every active is chosen for a reason and included at a meaningful level, not a token pinch. Bliss is nutritionist formulated and vet approved, and you can see each ingredient, its inclusion level and the published research behind it in the full formula above.
What is cold extrusion, and why does it matter?
Cold extrusion is a low-temperature way of shaping the chews. Every Bite is formed at just 38°C, close to a dog's body temperature, rather than the high heat of conventional cooking and standard extrusion. That matters because heat degrades many of the actives we use, from amino acids and delicate oils to vitamins and plant compounds. Keeping the process gentle helps preserve them, so the levels shown in the formula are protected through manufacture.
How long until I see a difference?
Some owners notice a calmer dog within the first days. The deeper changes, a more relaxed baseline and quicker recovery from stressful moments, build over four to eight weeks of consistent daily use as the gut-brain and stress-response support establish. Giving Bliss consistently each day matters more than giving more.
Can I give Bliss with medication or other supplements?
Bliss is a food supplement rather than a medicine, and it generally sits comfortably alongside a balanced diet and other supplements. If your dog takes medication, including anti-anxiety or behaviour medication, check with your vet first, as they can advise on timing and suitability.
How many Bites should I give my dog?
Give Bliss daily by your dog's weight: one Bite up to 10kg, two Bites for 10 to 20kg, three Bites for 20 to 30kg, and four Bites over 30kg. Give as a treat or with food, and keep to the same time each day. Consistency matters more than giving more.
Can my dog have too many?
Bliss is made from food-grade ingredients at gentle levels, so an extra Bite now and then is not a cause for alarm. Stick to the daily amount for your dog's weight for the best results. If your dog ever gets into a whole pack, a large one-off amount may cause temporary loose stools or drowsiness, so keep an eye on them and contact your vet if you have any concerns.
Can I give my dog more than one Bite at a time?
Yes. Many owners pair Bliss with Biotics as the Calming Routine: Biotics adds a live probiotic and branded prebiotics to complete the gut foundation beneath Bliss. When combining more than one, introduce them gradually and follow the feeding guide on each pack by your dog's weight.
Can I give Bites alongside my dog's usual food?
Yes. Supplements are a daily soft chew given as a treat or with food, so they fit alongside whatever your dog already eats, including our Superfoods & Ancient Grains. If you are introducing more than one Bite, add them gradually.
What if my dog doesn't like the Supplements?
Most dogs take to the soft chews readily, but if yours does not, that is exactly what our Health & Happiness Guarantee is for. Get in touch and we will make it right.
What is the Health & Happiness Guarantee?
Your dog's health and happiness is our number one priority. If your dog doesn't take to their Bites, or you're not completely happy for any reason, you get your money back, no quibbles, with no need to return anything: simply donate any unwanted Bites to a friend or a nearby animal shelter.
