Description

Block is the skin and coat chew in the Supplements functional supplement range: a daily soft chew built on the Biotics Triad of prebiotics, probiotics and postbiotics, then layered with quercetin-rich botanicals, GLA-rich oils and vitamin D3 that work through the gut-skin axis. It is formulated to support a calm skin response, a strong skin barrier and a balanced immune response for dogs prone to itching and sensitive skin. Made without meat, wheat, soy or corn.

Block is formulated to support:

  • A calm, comfortable skin response
  • A strong skin barrier and natural moisture balance
  • Coat condition and shine
  • A balanced, well-regulated immune response
  • A balanced, diverse gut microbiome
  • The gut barrier and intestinal lining
  • A healthy inflammatory response
Ingredients

Twenty-three named actives, led by the quercetin-rich botanicals Sophora japonica, stinging nettle and cranberry, the GLA-rich oils of evening primrose and borage, and vitamin D3, built on two postbiotics (TruPet™ and Lactobacillus helveticus HA-122), the Calsporin® probiotic and Biolex® MB40 and Fibrofos™ 60 prebiotic fibres, with DHAgold™ algae and supporting vitamins, minerals and botanicals. Every ingredient and inclusion level is listed in full below.

Cold Extrusion Benefits

Heat is the enemy of many of the actives that make a supplement worth giving, so every Bioactive Bite is cold-extruded, shaped at a gentle 38°C, close to a dog's own body temperature.

Why the gentle process matters:

  • Prebiotic fibres stay whole. Fructo-oligosaccharides such as those in Fibrofos™ 60 are broken down by high heat, which splits the fibre into simple sugars and reduces its prebiotic value, so a gentle process helps keep them intact.
  • Delicate oils stay intact. Fragile fats like the DHA in DHAgold™ and the GLA in evening primrose and borage oils oxidise and lose their value when heated, so a low temperature helps protect them.
  • Vitamins and antioxidants are preserved. Heat-sensitive nutrients such as natural vitamin E and vitamin C hold their potency rather than being cooked off.
  • Botanicals keep their activity. Delicate compounds, including the flavonoids in Sophora japonica, nettle and green tea and the volatile actives in turmeric and cinnamon, are easily degraded by heat.
  • Declared levels are protected. A gentle process means far less is lost in the making, so the inclusion levels on the pack are protected through manufacture.

In short, cold extrusion is how a carefully designed formula still delivers once it is in the bowl.

How Our Subscription Works

HOW DOES IT WORK?

When you sign up, we’ll ask for your dog’s breed, weight, age, activity level and about any health issues they may have.

This helps us calculate their calorie needs, how much Bonza plant-based super dogfood to feed them and how long a box would last. If you have multiple dogs, you’ll get a personalised feeding plan unique to each of them, but they can eat from the same box of food.

We’ll base the frequency of a fresh box arriving based on this feeding plan, but you have full control to pause, cancel, speed up or slow down your subscription as needed.

WHAT IF MY DOG DOESN’T LIKE BONZA?

Just like us, some dogs don’t like change.

It’s also important to remember that sometimes the old food that they are used to may contain lots of additives that made it taste great, even if it isn’t that healthy. Be persistent and try not to be trained by your dog. But sometimes they might just not be into it.

If you’ve transitioned to Bonza and you’re still unsure as to whether your dog likes it or not, we do offer a 100% money-back guarantee on your first box, no questions asked. See Our Health and Happiness Guarantee

WHY SUBSCRIPTION?

The reason we make it a subscription is because your dog, or dogs, need to eat the same number of calories every day to stay in peak condition. Our personalised meal plans ensure we conveniently deliver your next fresh box free to your home at just the right time. You never run out or end up with more food than you need. No mercy dashes and lugging heavy bags of dogfood home from the supermarket.

If you do not wish to continue the subscription, it is very easy to cancel or pause at any time in your account dashboard. We offer a commitment-free, rolling subscription plan.

IS MY SUBSCRIPTION FLEXIBLE?

Completely.

Our calculator takes your dog’s age, weight, intactness and activity levels into consideration and calculates the correct number of calories they require each day.

You can change any of your dog’s details in your account at any time and we will recalculate the number of calories they need and how often we need to deliver a fresh box of plant-based goodness direct to your doorstep.

Decided to mix-feed? No problem. In your account dashboard you can adjust the percentage of their daily food you want to feed them Bonza, and we will re-calculate how often we need to send their next box.

AM I IN A CONTRACT?

No. Your dog’s Bonza meal plan is a commitment-free rolling subscription plan. A simple click in your account dashboard gives you complete control over every aspect of your dog’s meal plan.

WHAT IF I RUN OUT OR HAVE TOO MUCH?

Our calculator should mean you never face this prospect.

However, we’ve made it super simple to pause, slow down or speed up your subscription with a click of a button so you’re only getting your dog’s food when you need it.

We always remind you 5 days ahead of sending the next box of fresh food for your dog.

WILL YOU WARN ME WHEN MY CARD IS TO BE CHARGED?

Sure will. We will let you know 5 days in advance of when your next fresh box is due to ship and when it will be charged.

Each email contains a quick link to choose a new order date that you’d prefer or a button for us to send it ASAP if you’re running low.

We want feeding your dog Bonza to be as easy for you, as it is enjoyable for them. Our website is self-service, so you don’t need to jump through any hoops to adjust anything, but we’re on live chat just in case you need a hand.

When Your Dog's Skin Never Gets a Break

It rarely starts with a crisis. It is the paw licking in the evening, the scratching that wakes you at night, the ears they keep rubbing and the patch of coat that never quite grows back. When your dog's skin is uncomfortable, their whole day revolves around it, and so does yours.

Skin that stays sensitive often has roots below the surface. The skin and the gut are in constant conversation along the gut-skin axis: around 70% of the immune system resides in the gut, and a gut that is out of balance can leave the immune system quicker to overreact and the skin barrier less able to hold its own. Seasonal pollens, dust, food and everyday surroundings then find an easier way in.

Block is designed to support skin from the inside out.

Not to mask signs with a quick fix, but to support the skin barrier, a balanced immune response and the gut that underpins them both.

What Block Supports

Six Ways Block Supports Your Dog's Skin and Coat

Each benefit connects back to the gut, because comfortable skin is built from the inside out.

Skin Comfort

Quercetin-rich botanicals support a calm, comfortable skin response for dogs prone to itching.

The science

Sophora japonica (18.75mg), stinging nettle (11.25mg) and cranberry (30mg) provide quercetin and related flavonoids, plant compounds studied for their role in stabilising mast cells, the immune cells that release histamine.

For the evidence, see natural antihistamines for dogs

Skin Barrier Support

GLA-rich oils, zinc and natural vitamin E support a strong skin barrier and natural moisture balance.

The science

Evening primrose oil (45mg) and borage oil (30mg) supply gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), an Omega-6 fatty acid the skin uses to maintain its barrier lipids, alongside zinc (11.25mg) and natural vitamin E (6mg).

For the evidence, see Omega-6 for dogs

Coat Condition

Algae-sourced Omega-3 and zinc support supple skin and a glossy, healthy-looking coat.

The science

DHAgold™ algae (30mg) supplies long-chain Omega-3 (DHA), and zinc in its chelated glycine form supports skin and coat quality, as studied in dogs.

For the evidence, see the dog skin microbiome

Balanced Immune Response

Around 70% of immune tissue sits in the gut. Postbiotics and vitamin D3 support a proportionate, well-regulated immune response.

The science

Two postbiotics, TruPet™ (150mg) and Lactobacillus helveticus HA-122, alongside vitamin D3 (101.25 IU per chew), interact with the gut-associated immune tissue that shapes how the body responds to everyday environmental triggers.

For the evidence, see the gut-immune axis

Gut-Skin Axis Support

A balanced gut and a well-supported gut lining are the foundation of healthy, resilient skin.

The science

Fibrofos™ 60 and Biolex® MB40 feed beneficial bacteria, Calsporin® adds a studied spore-forming strain, and L-Glutamine (48.75mg per chew) and clinoptilolite (69.13mg) support the gut lining and the natural clearance of unwanted compounds.

For the evidence, see the gut-skin axis

Healthy Inflammatory Response

Botanicals such as turmeric, chamomile and green tea support a healthy inflammatory response in the skin.

The science

Turmeric (providing curcumin, with black pepper extract to aid absorption), chamomile and green tea are traditionally used to support a healthy inflammatory response, while milk thistle supports the liver, which processes much of what the gut absorbs.

For the evidence, see skin inflammation in dogs

How Block Works

The Science Behind Block

Golden retriever sitting beside a pouch of Bonza Biotics Supplements
  1. Feed & Populate

Prebiotic fibres, Fibrofos™ 60 and Biolex® MB40, feed the beneficial bacteria already living in your dog's gut, while Calsporin® (Bacillus velezensis DSM 15544), a studied spore-forming probiotic, survives digestive transit to add more of them. The more good bacteria at work, and the more varied they are, the better supported your dog's microbiome, and that microbiome is the foundation healthy skin is built on.

    Fibrofos™ 60 feeds beneficial bacteria · Calsporin® delivers 7.5 × 10⁸ CFU per chew

  2. Deliver the Postbiotics

Two named postbiotics, TruPet™ and Lactobacillus helveticus HA-122, deliver the beneficial compounds those bacteria produce. Those compounds feed the cells that line the gut wall, the thin, living barrier that sits between what your dog eats and the rest of their body. A well-nourished gut lining is what keeps everyday digestion settled, comfortable and resilient, which is why this layer matters as much as the bacteria themselves.

    TruPet™ 150mg · L. helveticus HA-122 1.35 × 10⁹ cells

  3. Calm and Protect the Skin

Block then goes further for the skin itself. Sophora japonica, stinging nettle and cranberry provide quercetin-rich flavonoids, evening primrose and borage oils supply GLA for the skin barrier, vitamin D3 and the postbiotics support a balanced immune response, and turmeric, chamomile and green tea support a healthy inflammatory response. That is the gut-skin axis at work: care for the gut, and you care for the skin. One Gut. Whole Dog.™ is not just a name. It is how the body actually works.

Setting Expectations

Your Dog's Journey With Block

Supporting skin from the inside out is a gradual, biological process, not an instant fix. Here is what many owners report as a general guide.

  1. Week 1-2

    Settling In

The probiotic strain begins to settle while the prebiotic fibres start feeding beneficial bacteria. Some dogs have a brief digestive adjustment as the microbiome shifts, which usually passes within a week.

  2. Week 2-4

    Early Comfort

As the quercetin-rich botanicals and postbiotics establish, many owners notice a more settled, comfortable dog.

  3. Month 2-3

    Skin and Coat

As the skin barrier is supported by GLA, DHA and zinc, many owners report softer skin and a glossier, healthier-looking coat.

  4. Ongoing

    Year-Round Resilience

Consistent daily use maintains the gut, immune and skin-barrier support that Block provides, through changing seasons and everyday surroundings.

Many owners notice changes over the first few weeks. Giving Block consistently each day matters more than giving more.

FAQ

Your Questions Answered

What are Bonza Supplements?

Supplements are daily soft-chew supplements for dogs. Every Bite is built on a gut-health foundation, the Biotics Triad of prebiotics, probiotics and postbiotics, then layered with targeted bioactives that work along a specific gut-organ axis to support a particular concern, from digestion and skin to calm, joints and senior vitality.

What is Block, and who is it for?

Block is the skin and coat chew in the Supplements range. It is formulated for dogs prone to itching and sensitive skin, including dogs whose skin reacts to the seasons, their food or their surroundings. It combines the Biotics Triad with quercetin-rich botanicals, GLA-rich oils and vitamin D3 to support a calm skin response, a strong skin barrier and a balanced immune response.

What is the Biotics Triad?

It is the three-part gut foundation behind every Bite. Prebiotics feed the good bacteria, probiotics add more of them, and postbiotics deliver the beneficial compounds they produce. Together they support microbial diversity and the gut barrier, the base every other system builds on.

What is the gut-skin axis, and why does it matter for skin?

The gut-skin axis is the two-way communication between the gut and the skin. Around 70% of the immune system resides in the gut, so when the gut microbiome or gut lining is out of balance, the immune system can become quicker to overreact and the skin can pay the price. Block supports the gut-skin axis with prebiotics, a probiotic, postbiotics, L-Glutamine and clinoptilolite, alongside its skin-focused actives. Read more about the gut-skin axis.

What is quercetin, and why does Block contain three sources of it?

Quercetin is a flavonoid found in many plants, studied for its role in stabilising mast cells, the immune cells that release histamine. Block draws it from three botanical sources, Sophora japonica, stinging nettle and cranberry, each of which brings its own mix of related plant compounds alongside the quercetin.

My dog has been diagnosed with atopic dermatitis or another skin condition. Can I give Block?

Block is a food supplement, not a veterinary medicine, and it is not a treatment for any skin condition. Many owners of dogs with a diagnosed condition give Block daily to support skin comfort alongside the care plan their vet has put in place. Talk to your vet before starting, particularly if your dog takes allergy medication, and never stop or change a prescribed treatment without their advice.

My dog has seasonal sensitivities. When should I start Block?

Many owners start Block two to four weeks before their dog's usual season, which gives the gut and immune-supporting actives time to establish. For year-round sensitivities, Block is designed for daily, ongoing use.

Which Bioactive Bite is right for my dog?

Choose by the concern that matters most: Belly for digestion, Biotics for microbiome balance, Block for skin and coat, Bliss for calm, Bounce for joints and mobility, Banish for flea-season skin and coat support, and Boost for the senior years. If skin and coat are your main concern, Block is the place to start. You can compare all seven Bites on our Supplements page.

What is the difference between Block and Banish?

Block supports skin and coat through the gut-skin axis, a balanced immune response and the skin barrier. Banish is formulated for flea-season skin and coat support. Some owners give both during the warmer months; introduce them gradually and follow the feeding guide on each pack by your dog's weight.

Are Supplements suitable for sensitive dogs, puppies and seniors?

Supplements are made without meat, wheat, soy, corn or artificial additives, which suits many dogs with sensitivities. They are formulated for dogs from 12 weeks and older. If your dog has a medical condition or takes medication, check with your vet before starting.

What is Block free from, and is it suitable for dogs with allergies?

Block is made without meat, wheat, soy or corn, so it contains no chicken or beef, the proteins most often behind food sensitivities in dogs. That makes it a gentle daily choice for many sensitive dogs. If your dog has a diagnosed allergy, check the full ingredient list above before starting, and have a word with your vet if you are unsure.

Why is Block plant-based?

Plant-based by consequence, not by trend. The most common food sensitivities in dogs are animal proteins like chicken and beef, so a plant-based formula sidesteps them, which is what makes Block gentle on sensitive dogs. It suits vegan households too, but the reason we make it this way is health, not ideology.

Is Block suitable for pregnant or nursing dogs?

For pregnant or nursing dogs, check with your vet before starting. Their nutritional needs change during this time, and your vet can advise on what is right for them.

Are Supplements safe?

Yes. Supplements are food supplements made from food-grade ingredients at gentle, effective levels, formulated by our nutritionist and approved by our veterinary advisory board. They are supplements, not medicines, and are designed to complement a balanced diet rather than replace veterinary care. They are made for daily, long-term use, with no need to cycle on and off. If your dog has a health condition or takes medication, check with your vet before starting.

Are there any side effects?

Block is well tolerated by most dogs. A small number have a minor digestive adjustment in the first few days as the microbiome adapts to the prebiotic and postbiotic compounds, which usually settles within a week. If your dog has a known sensitivity to any listed ingredient, check with your vet before starting.

Who formulated Block?

Block was formulated by Bonza's founder, Glendon Lloyd, who holds Diplomas in Canine Nutrition and Dog Nutrigenomics, both with Distinction, and it is approved by our Veterinary Advisory Board. Every ingredient is selected on published research and included at a meaningful level.

Are the ingredients backed by evidence?

Yes. Every active is chosen for a reason and included at a meaningful level, not a token pinch. Block is nutritionist formulated and vet approved, and you can see each ingredient, its inclusion level and the published research behind it in the full formula above.

What is cold extrusion, and why does it matter?

Cold extrusion is a low-temperature way of shaping the chews. Every Bite is formed at just 38°C, close to a dog's body temperature, rather than the high heat of conventional cooking and standard extrusion. That matters because heat degrades many of the actives we use, from prebiotic fibres and delicate oils to vitamins and plant compounds. Keeping the process gentle helps preserve them, so the levels shown in the formula are protected through manufacture.

How long until I see a difference?

Many owners notice a more settled, comfortable dog within two to three weeks. Skin barrier and coat changes build over six to twelve weeks of consistent daily use, and dogs with long-standing sensitivities may take longer. Giving Block consistently each day matters more than giving more.

Can I give Block with medication or other supplements?

Block is a food supplement rather than a medicine, and it generally sits comfortably alongside a balanced diet and other supplements. If your dog takes medication, including allergy medication, steroids or immunosuppressants, check with your vet first, as they can advise on timing and suitability.

How many Bites should I give my dog?

Give Block daily by your dog's weight: one Bite up to 10kg, two Bites for 10 to 20kg, three Bites for 20 to 30kg, and four Bites over 30kg. Give as a treat or with food, and keep to the same time each day. Consistency matters more than giving more.

Can my dog have too many?

Block is made from food-grade ingredients at gentle levels, so an extra Bite now and then is not a cause for alarm. Stick to the daily amount for your dog's weight for the best results. If your dog ever gets into a whole pack, a large one-off amount may cause temporary loose stools, so keep an eye on them and contact your vet if you have any concerns.

Can I give my dog more than one Bite at a time?

Yes. Many owners pair Block with Biotics as the Skin & Coat Routine, with Biotics supporting microbial balance at the root and Block targeting the skin. When combining more than one, introduce them gradually and follow the feeding guide on each pack by your dog's weight.

Can I give Bites alongside my dog's usual food?

Yes. Supplements are a daily soft chew given as a treat or with food, so they fit alongside whatever your dog already eats, including our Superfoods & Ancient Grains. If you are introducing more than one Bite, add them gradually.

What if my dog doesn't like the Supplements?

Most dogs take to the soft chews readily, but if yours does not, that is exactly what our Health & Happiness Guarantee is for. Get in touch and we will make it right.

What is the Health & Happiness Guarantee?

Your dog's health and happiness is our number one priority. If your dog doesn't take to their Bites, or you're not completely happy for any reason, you get your money back, no quibbles, with no need to return anything: simply donate any unwanted Bites to a friend or a nearby animal shelter. You can read the full terms on our Health & Happiness Guarantee page.

How does Subscribe & Save work?

Subscribe & Save takes 10% off every delivery and delivers on a schedule matched to your dog's weight. You can pause, change or skip a delivery, or cancel, at any time.

How should I store them?

Keep the pouch in a cool, dry place and reseal it after each use to keep the chews fresh.
