Description

Banish is the flea and tick season chew in the Supplements functional supplement range: a daily soft chew that combines brewers' yeast, rosemary, clove leaf, lavender and thyme, ingredients traditionally used to help make dogs less appealing to fleas and ticks, with prebiotic chicory root, the postbiotic Lactobacillus helveticus HA-122 and skin-nourishing oils that work along the gut-skin axis. It is for dogs who spend their days outdoors, from early spring to autumn, and is given daily alongside your usual flea and tick control. Made without meat, wheat, soy or corn.

Banish is formulated to support:

  • Your dog through flea and tick season, with ingredients traditionally used to help make dogs less appealing to pests
  • A healthy skin barrier
  • A glossy, well-conditioned coat
  • The skin's natural defences
  • A balanced skin and gut microbiome
  • A healthy immune response
  • Antioxidant protection for skin cells
Ingredients

Led by rosemary, brewers' yeast and chicory root, with hemp seed oil (CBD-free), coconut oil and DHAgold™ algae for the skin barrier, the botanicals thyme, clove leaf, lavender and lemon balm, cranberry, cinnamon, pineapple and apple cider vinegar, heat-inactivated Lactobacillus helveticus HA-122, and vitamins B12 and E. Every ingredient and inclusion level is listed in full below.

Cold Extrusion Benefits

Heat is the enemy of many of the actives that make a supplement worth giving, so every Bioactive Bite is cold-extruded, shaped at a gentle 38°C, close to a dog's own body temperature.

Why the gentle process matters:

  • Prebiotic fibres stay whole. Fructo-oligosaccharides such as those in chicory root are broken down by high heat, which splits the fibre into simple sugars and reduces its prebiotic value, so a gentle process helps keep them intact.
  • Delicate oils stay intact. Fragile fats like the DHA in DHAgold™ and the essential fatty acids in hemp seed oil oxidise and lose their value when heated, so a low temperature helps protect them.
  • Vitamins and antioxidants are preserved. Heat-sensitive nutrients such as vitamin B12 and natural vitamin E hold their potency rather than being cooked off.
  • Botanicals keep their activity. Delicate compounds, including the bromelain from pineapple and the volatile compounds in rosemary, thyme, clove leaf and lavender, are easily degraded by heat.
  • Declared levels are protected. A gentle process means far less is lost in the making, so the inclusion levels on the pack are protected through manufacture.

In short, cold extrusion is how a carefully designed formula still delivers once it is in the bowl.

When Flea and Tick Season Comes Round Again

Long grass, woodland walks and warm summer days. The outdoors is where your dog is happiest, and from spring to autumn it is also where fleas and ticks are waiting. Many owners want to support their dog's natural defences from within, alongside the flea and tick control they already use, and to keep skin and coat in good condition through the season.

The skin has its own microbiome, and it is in constant conversation with the gut along the gut-skin axis. When the gut microbiome loses balance and diversity, the skin can follow, and a well-nourished skin barrier depends on the fatty acids, vitamins and antioxidants that reach it from within.

Bonza Banish: why it's different

Banish is designed to support your dog through flea and tick season, from the inside out.

Daily, alongside your usual parasite control, it combines ingredients traditionally used to help make dogs less appealing to pests with the gut, skin and coat support that keeps your dog in condition, whatever the season.

What Banish Supports

Six Ways Banish Supports Your Dog Through Flea Season

Each benefit connects back to the gut, because healthy skin is built from the inside out.

Healthy Skin Barrier

Essential fats nourish the skin barrier from within.

The science

Hemp seed oil (90mg per chew, CBD-free) provides Omega-3 and Omega-6 essential fatty acids, DHAgold™ algae (30mg) supplies Omega-3 DHA, and coconut oil (90mg) adds medium-chain fats.

For the evidence, see hemp seed oil for dogs

Glossy, Healthy Coat

B vitamins and antioxidants support skin renewal and coat condition.

The science

Brewers' yeast (364mg) is a natural source of B vitamins, alongside added vitamin B12 and natural vitamin E, nutrients the body uses for healthy skin cells and a well-conditioned coat.

For the evidence, see brewer's yeast for dogs

Traditional Flea Season Botanicals

Ingredients traditionally used to help make dogs less appealing to fleas and ticks.

The science

Brewers' yeast (364mg), rosemary (183.75mg), clove leaf, lavender and thyme are traditionally used to help make dogs less appealing to pests, and rosemary, thyme, clove leaf and lemon balm have been studied in laboratory research on microbes found on dog skin. Give Banish alongside your usual flea and tick control.

For the evidence, see the dog skin microbiome

Gut-Skin Axis Support

A balanced gut supports a balanced skin microbiome.

The science

Chicory root FOS (156mg), brewers' yeast and whole-food fibres feed a wide range of beneficial gut bacteria, and heat-inactivated L. helveticus HA-122 (1.125 × 10⁹ cells) delivers the beneficial compounds those bacteria produce.

For the evidence, see the gut-skin axis

Immune Resilience

Yeast beta-glucans and a postbiotic support a healthy immune response.

The science

Brewers' yeast supplies beta-glucans and mannan-oligosaccharides, which interact with the gut-associated immune tissue, and the postbiotic L. helveticus HA-122 supports gut and immune balance.

For the evidence, see beta-glucans for dogs

Antioxidant Protection

Plant polyphenols and vitamin E help protect skin cells.

The science

Rosemary, cranberry (30mg), cinnamon (7.5mg) and pineapple (18.75mg) provide polyphenols with antioxidant properties, and natural vitamin E (6mg) helps protect the delicate oils and cell membranes.

For the evidence, see antioxidants for dogs

How Banish Works

The Science Behind Banish

Bonza Banish: how it works
  1. Balance the Gut

Along the gut-skin axis, a balanced gut microbiome helps keep the skin's own microbiome in balance. Banish feeds beneficial bacteria with chicory root FOS, the beta-glucans and mannan-oligosaccharides in brewers' yeast, and whole-food fibres, while heat-inactivated Lactobacillus helveticus HA-122, a postbiotic, delivers the beneficial compounds those bacteria produce, with no need to survive digestion.

    Chicory root FOS 156mg · Brewers' yeast 364mg · L. helveticus HA-122 1.125 × 10⁹ cells

  2. Nourish Skin and Coat

A healthy skin barrier is built from within. Hemp seed oil, DHA from DHAgold™ algae and coconut oil supply the fats the skin uses for its barrier, while the B vitamins in brewers' yeast, added vitamin B12 and natural vitamin E support skin renewal and a well-conditioned coat.

    Hemp seed oil 90mg · Coconut oil 90mg · DHAgold™ algae 30mg · Vitamin E 6mg

  3. Support Natural Defences

Brewers' yeast, rosemary, clove leaf, lavender and thyme are traditionally used to help make dogs less appealing to fleas and ticks, and rosemary, thyme, clove leaf and lemon balm provide plant compounds studied for their antioxidant properties and, in laboratory research, for their activity against microbes found on dog skin, while cranberry, cinnamon and pineapple add polyphenols. That is the gut-skin axis at work: care for the gut, and you care for the skin. One Gut. Whole Dog.™ is not just a name. It is how the body actually works.

Setting Expectations

Your Dog's Journey With Banish

Supporting skin and coat from the inside out is a gradual, biological process, not an instant fix. Here is what many owners report as a general guide.

  1. Week 1-2

    Settling In

The prebiotic fibres, postbiotic and skin nutrients begin to work together. Some dogs have a brief digestive adjustment as the microbiome adapts, which usually passes within a few days.

  2. Week 3-4

    First Signs in the Coat

Skin renews itself over several weeks, so many owners first notice a softer feel to the coat after about a month of daily use.

  3. Month 2-3

    Skin and Coat in Condition

As the essential fats, B vitamins and gut support build, many owners report a glossier coat and more comfortable-looking skin.

  4. Ongoing

    Year-Round Support

Consistent daily use maintains the skin and coat support Banish provides, through the warmer months and the rest of the year.

Many owners notice changes over the first few weeks. Giving Banish consistently each day matters more than giving more.

FAQ

Your Questions Answered

What are Bonza Supplements?

Supplements are daily soft-chew supplements for dogs. Every Bite is built on a gut-health foundation of named biotics, then layered with targeted bioactives that work along a specific gut-organ axis to support a particular concern, from digestion and skin to calm, joints and senior vitality.

What is Banish, and who is it for?

Banish is the flea and tick season chew in the Supplements range. It is formulated for dogs whose skin and coat face the outdoors every day, and for owners who want natural, daily support through flea and tick season, alongside their usual parasite control. It supports a healthy skin barrier, a glossy coat and your dog's natural defences. It combines prebiotic chicory root and brewers' yeast with a postbiotic, skin-nourishing oils and a botanical blend led by rosemary.

How does Banish work?

Banish works in three ways, given daily alongside your usual parasite control. It balances the gut with chicory root FOS, brewers' yeast and whole-food fibres, alongside heat-inactivated Lactobacillus helveticus HA-122, because a balanced gut supports a balanced skin microbiome. It nourishes the skin and coat with hemp seed oil, DHAgold™ algae, coconut oil, B vitamins and natural vitamin E. And it supports your dog's natural defences with brewers' yeast, rosemary, clove leaf, lavender and thyme, ingredients traditionally used to help make dogs less appealing to fleas and ticks, plus lemon balm and antioxidant cranberry, cinnamon and pineapple.

What is the gut-skin axis, and why does it matter for skin and coat?

The gut-skin axis is the link between the gut microbiome and the skin. The skin has its own microbiome, and research shows that when gut microbial balance and diversity fall, skin balance can follow. A well-nourished skin barrier also depends on the fats, vitamins and antioxidants that reach it from within. That is why Banish supports the gut and the skin together. Read more about the gut-skin axis.

Does Banish replace my flea, tick and worming treatment?

No. Banish is a food supplement, not a veterinary medicine, and it is not a substitute for licensed flea, tick or worming treatments. It contains ingredients traditionally used to help make dogs less appealing to fleas and ticks, and supports skin, coat and natural defences through the season. Give it alongside the parasite control your vet recommends.

When should I start giving Banish?

Many owners start Banish in early spring, around February or March, before flea and tick season gets going, and continue through to the autumn. Others give it year-round. Either way, give it every day: it works as part of a consistent daily routine, not as a one-off.

My dog has been diagnosed with a skin condition. Can I give Banish?

Banish is a food supplement, not a veterinary medicine, and it is not a treatment for any skin condition. Many owners of dogs with a diagnosed skin condition give Banish daily to support skin and coat alongside the plan their vet has put in place. Talk to your vet before starting, particularly if your dog takes medication, and never stop or change a prescribed treatment without their advice.

Why are there essential oils in Banish?

Banish contains very small amounts of clove leaf, lavender and garlic oils, 3mg of each per chew, alongside rosemary, thyme tincture and lemon balm. They are part of the botanical blend traditionally used to help make dogs less appealing to fleas and ticks, and are delivered within a food, at levels set by your dog's weight. Never give essential oils to your dog directly, on their own or undiluted.

Banish contains garlic oil. Is that safe for dogs?

Garlic can be harmful to dogs in larger amounts, which is why Banish contains only a very small amount of garlic oil, 3mg per chew, with the daily amount set by your dog's weight. If your dog has anaemia or another blood condition, or takes medication, check with your vet before starting.

Is the hemp seed oil in Banish CBD?

No. Banish contains hemp seed oil, pressed from the seeds, which is CBD-free. It is there for its Omega-3 and Omega-6 essential fatty acids, alongside the DHA from DHAgold™ algae.

Which Bioactive Bite is right for my dog?

Choose by the concern that matters most: Belly for digestion, Biotics for microbiome balance, Block for skin and coat, Bliss for calm, Bounce for joints and mobility, Banish for flea-season skin and coat support, and Boost for the senior years. If your dog's skin sensitivities are the main concern, Block is the place to start; for natural support through flea and tick season, choose Banish. You can compare all seven Bites on our Supplements page.

What is Banish free from, and is it suitable for dogs with allergies?

Banish is made without meat, wheat, soy or corn, so it contains no chicken or beef, the proteins most often behind food sensitivities in dogs. That makes it a gentle daily choice for many sensitive dogs. If your dog has a diagnosed allergy, check the full ingredient list above before starting, and have a word with your vet if you are unsure.

Why is Banish plant-based?

Plant-based by consequence, not by trend. The most common food sensitivities in dogs are animal proteins like chicken and beef, so a plant-based formula sidesteps them, which is what makes Banish gentle on sensitive dogs. It suits vegan households too, but the reason we make it this way is health, not ideology.

Is Banish suitable for puppies, seniors and pregnant or nursing dogs?

Banish is formulated for dogs from 12 weeks and older, including seniors. For pregnant or nursing dogs, check with your vet before starting, as Banish contains botanicals and essential oils and their needs change during this time.

Are Supplements safe?

Yes. Supplements are food supplements made from food-grade ingredients at gentle, effective levels, formulated by our nutritionist and approved by our veterinary advisory board. They are supplements, not medicines, and are designed to complement a balanced diet rather than replace veterinary care. They are made for daily, long-term use, with no need to cycle on and off. If your dog has a health condition or takes medication, check with your vet before starting.

Are there any side effects?

Banish is well tolerated by most dogs. A few have a minor digestive adjustment in the first few days as the microbiome adapts to the prebiotic fibres, which usually passes within a week. If you notice any change that concerns you, stop giving Banish and speak to your vet.

Who formulated Banish?

Banish was formulated by Bonza's founder, Glendon Lloyd, who holds Diplomas in Canine Nutrition and Dog Nutrigenomics, both with Distinction, and it is approved by our Veterinary Advisory Board. Every ingredient is selected on published research and included at a meaningful level.

Are the ingredients backed by evidence?

Yes. Every active is chosen for a reason and included at a meaningful level. For the oils, B vitamins and biotics there are feeding studies in dogs; for several botanicals the evidence is laboratory research on microbes taken from dogs, and we say so. You can see each ingredient, its inclusion level and the published research behind it in the full formula above.

What is cold extrusion, and why does it matter?

Cold extrusion is a low-temperature way of shaping the chews. Every Bite is formed at just 38°C, close to a dog's body temperature, rather than the high heat of conventional cooking and standard extrusion. That matters because heat degrades many of the actives we use, from prebiotic fibres and delicate oils to vitamins and the volatile compounds in botanicals. Keeping the process gentle helps preserve them, so the levels shown in the formula are protected through manufacture.

How long until I see a difference?

Skin renews itself over several weeks and coat grows gradually, so most owners first notice a softer coat after about a month of daily use, with fuller benefits over two to three months. Giving Banish consistently each day matters more than giving more.

Can I give Banish with medication or other supplements?

Banish is a food supplement rather than a medicine, and it generally sits comfortably alongside a balanced diet, other supplements and the parasite control your vet recommends. If your dog takes medication, check with your vet first, as they can advise on timing and suitability.

How many Bites should I give my dog?

Give Banish daily by your dog's weight: one Bite up to 10kg, two Bites for 10 to 20kg, three Bites for 20 to 30kg, and four Bites over 30kg. Give as a treat or with food, and keep to the same time each day. Consistency matters more than giving more.

Can my dog have too many?

Stick to the daily amount for your dog's weight. An extra Bite now and then is not a cause for alarm, but if your dog ever gets into a whole pack, contact your vet, as Banish contains botanicals and essential oils intended for the daily amount only.

Can I give my dog more than one Bite at a time?

Yes. Many owners give Banish alongside Biotics, which adds a live probiotic and further postbiotics to complete the gut foundation beneath it, or alongside the Foundation Routine. For dogs with skin sensitivities, Banish can also be paired with Block. When combining more than one, introduce them gradually and follow the feeding guide on each pack by your dog's weight.

Can I give Bites alongside my dog's usual food?

Yes. Supplements are a daily soft chew given as a treat or with food, so they fit alongside whatever your dog already eats, including our Superfoods & Ancient Grains. If you are introducing more than one Bite, add them gradually.

What if my dog doesn't like the Supplements?

Most dogs take to the soft chews readily, but if yours does not, that is exactly what our Health & Happiness Guarantee is for. Get in touch and we will make it right.

What is the Health & Happiness Guarantee?

Your dog's health and happiness is our number one priority. If your dog doesn't take to their Bites, or you're not completely happy for any reason, you get your money back, no quibbles, with no need to return anything: simply donate any unwanted Bites to a friend or a nearby animal shelter.
